May they all be one- John 17:21

 Mt, 20: 1-16

Today’s readings come as big challenge to our faith and our understanding of how God works.  Last Sunday, in our reflection, we put an emphasis on the nature of our God who is a forgiving God.  Prophet Isaiah tells us that God’s thoughts and ways are not like ours. (Is 55:8-9).  God will always disconcert, disturb and unsettle us.

 Mt 18: 21- 35

We continue we our meditation on ecclesial or community life.  The last verses of Matthew 18 are about forgiveness.  The chapter starts with a question about who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven and ends with another question. This time it is about forgiveness. “How many times shall my brother or sister sin against me, and I forgive them?”, asked Peter to Jesus. This question comes  after Jesus had proposed to us a pedagogy of reconciliation.

  (Mt 18, 15-20)

For two consecutive Sundays we shall be meditating on the fourth discourse in the Gospel of Matthew. As we have seen already there are five discourses in the Gospel of Matthew. The first discourse is about the Sermon on the Mountain (Mt 5-7). The second is on the Missionary discourse (Mt, 9:36 – 11:1).
