Ecumenical Round Table; on Saturday 28 October 2017, at the Lutheran Cathedral (3:00 pm).
Celebrating the 500th Reformation anniversary at the IEM-K Round Table; Fr. Gilles Blouin, Assumptionist, will open the debate with provoking questions.
In October 1517, Friar Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk, posted his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg Castle church (Germany). This action, a usual academic procedure at the time, has become a symbol of the birth of the Reformation. It was meant to provoke a debate, not to create a new church. It is only in the 19th century that October 1517 became a symbol of the Reformation.
The question today is: is the inspiration for the Reformation still alive? Did the Catholic Church answer Luther’s main questions when it convened the Vatican Council 50 years ago? And now are we ready, as Catholics and Protestants, to take a step further towards reconciliation? Let us not miss this new opportunity to become common witnesses to Jesus Christ in the world of today.
