May they all be one- John 17:21

Mt 25:1-13

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, as we approach the end of the liturgical year, the church proposes us to meditate on the end of times and urges us to be prepared for the coming of the Lord.  (Mt 25). For three consecutive Sundays we shall be meditating on three parables which are part of the fifth discourse of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 24-25).

 Mt 21:33- 41

Today we are meditating on the second parable in response to the controversy between the religious establishment and Jesus.  The chief priests and the elders had challenged Jesus’ authority. Jesus responded to the challenge with three parables.  In the previous passage he used the parable of the two sons.

Mt 21:28-32

We have seen several times that Jesus’ preferred way of communication is through parables.  He does his teaching through stories and images.  These stories and images have that capacity to involve the listener and draw the person into the story, as it unfolds.  Images and stories are full of truths and are like a mirror through which we read our own attitudes and our own lives.
